The Program of Practice
Improving integration of services and transitions for NOCE students. Specifically, improving the transition of NOCE students to CTE or other programs and transition to college by providing information and support for that transition.
The Response
Facilitation of the Adult Career & College Transition (ACCT) Program under the Counseling and Student Services Department at NOCE. The program is facilitated by a College Transition Counselor who facilitates the following activities:
-specialized counseling appointments to support NOCE students with information on transitioning to college and initiating the onboarding process
-Coordination of workshops throughout the year on financial aid, AB 540 eligibility and student support programs.
-Teaching a Transitioning to College course. The course is designed to prepare students for college credit by reviewing programs, policies, and reviewing support programs and strategies for their success.
-Developing, coordinating and hosting an annual College Transition event for NOCE students to learn about college transition information, programs and opportunities from our sister colleges, Cypress College and Fullerton College.
-Coordinating and hosting campus tours for NOCE students throughout the year at Cypress College and Fullerton College.
-Managing the Adult Dual Enrollment program. This includes assisting students with eligibility, the application process, and follow up with participation.
-Development of promotional flyers and distribution for ACCT and Adult Dual Enrollment
-Development of the ACCT website and updates.
The Unique Features of the Program
-Specialized college transition support by NOCE Counselors. This includes application support and direct referrals for onboarding support.
-Offering a Transitioning to College course taught by a NOCE Counselor. The course is designed to prepare students for college credit by reviewing programs, policies, and reviewing support programs and strategies for their success.
-Offering specialized workshops throughout the year on financial aid, AB 540 eligibility and student support programs.
-Hosting an annual event related to college transition by including Cypress and Fullerton College partners to provide presentations and key information for their entry and success.
-Hosting campus tours throughout the year at Cypress College and Fullerton College.
-Offering Adult Dual Enrollment as an option for NOCE students pursuing the high school diploma or GED/HiSET programs.
The Outcome
The ACCT program supports an average of 250 students per year on college transition (application, onboarding support and referrals). This number does not include the students within our Disability Support Services program who also transition.
Enroll an average of 45 students per semester to the Adult Dual Enrollment program (Adult special admit). This allows students in our high school diploma program or GED/HiSET preparation program to get a head start on their college journey.
Per Cypress College, NOCE is one of their top feeder schools for new enrolled students.
