The Program of Practice

Thousands of working adults come to Delta each year looking to make a change. DARTE is a set of classes and support services known as a "learning community" that can give some of these students even more assistance along the way. Specifically, the program allows students who are in the process of earning their high school diplomas at an adult school to finish transfer-level math and English college courses at the same time. DARTE is also open to any other returning adult who simply wants to finish a certificate or degree, or transfer to a four-year college.

The Response

Students will benefit from a dedicated counselor and instructors through the DARTE learning community. The team will work with students closely to help them reach their goals. The learning community offers a first year experience for adults returning back to school and want to get a jump start on their educational journey.

The Unique Features of the Program

DARTE is also open to any other returning adult who simply wants to finish a certificate or degree, or transfer to a four-year college. With the implementation of SB554, students can be coenrolled at the adult school while attending Delta College and take up to 11 units per semester for free.

The Outcome

Here is the progress of coenrolled:
2020-2021: 11 students
2021-2022: 40 students
2022-2023: 57 students
2023-2024: 134 students

With a total of 242 SB554

Students coenrolled at the adult school and Delta College as an SB554 DARTE student had an 86% Success Rate compared to our adult school students who graduated and transitioned to Delta DARTE program with a 80% Success Rate. In sum, adults coenrolled as SB554 students were more successful than the those that had already graduated from a high school completion program.
