The Program of Practice

The CAEP ELL IET Healthcare Pathway funds have enabled many agencies to add CTE classes in healthcare. However, some agencies see the potential to maximize this trend and the need for more funding and support is significant.

The Response

Corona-Norco Adult School sought other funding sources in addition to the CAEP ELL IET Grant. One such opportunity was the Employment Development Department ELL IET Grant.

The Unique Features of the Program

By braiding EDD, CAEP ELL IET, existing CAEP funds, and the community support, Corona-Norco Adult School, a member of the About Students Riverside Consortium is offering multiple courses in their newly inaugurated Healthcare Career Training Center. In partnership with local employers through the Chamber of Commerce, this unique program offers ESL students first priority. The center offers wraparound services including all onboarding, CPR certification and transition to employment at the externship partner locations. Students are set up for success through onboarding orientation, counseling, background check, childcare, tutoring and employment support through the Transition Specialist.

The Outcome

Corona-Norco Adult School certified 37 nurse assistants in 1.5 years. It is starting Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, and Licensed Vocational Nurse training in May 2024 at the recently inaugurated Healthcare Career Training Center.
